I also heard earlier today that quite a few wrestlers were frustrated backstage prior to Raw going on the air. Vince McMahon was reportedly very consumed with Piven and his portions on the show that he was virtually not even there. Stephanie was either occupied or not there (I heard both) and wrestlers were not able to pitch ideas or talk about their segments because everyone was practically unreachable. The fear is that it may not change anytime soon with more celebrity hosts getting involved with future editions of the show. Source Wrestlezone |

Down the road, Stephanie McMahon says the show plans to have as hosts Freddie Prinze Jr., who will promote his new role on the Fox TV show 24, former game show host Bob Barker, and the Reverend Al Sharpton (who hasn’t yet said exactly what he’ll be promoting). The upside for the stars is huge. According to McMahon, by providing promotions in upcoming shows, replaying shows on its Web site, and adding the pickup it gets from other news outlets, the show can offer as many as 40 million impressions for whatever its hosts might be promoting. Does any of this actually help the stars sell their wares? Hard to tell. But it has boosted ratings. Raw’s total viewers grew by 12% when Shaq was announced, USA Network says, and the program is currently averaging 5.34 million viewers. Heck, Shaq even helped boost women viewers by 20% over the prior week. “They have something to promote, and we have the platform that they need,” says Chris McCumber, USA Network’s executive vice-president for marketing and brand strategy. “Raw is like a male soap opera anyway. We’re just adding a little more entertainment.” source: http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/aug2009/db2009084_008420.htm |

Stephanie McMahon told Brian Gewirtz and Michael Hayes that she wants them to bring in more writers. They started searching last week and she told Gewirtz to reach out to anyone he knew from MTV. In a somewhat related note, the new writer who took over for John Carle is said to be on thin ice. They writer's assistants are usually completely unqualified, yet given tasks that far exceed what they are able to do, and thus the turnover is quite high. f4w newsletter |

| Stephanie on meeting |
|
credit: Wrestling Observer Newsletter Stephanie McMahon had a meeting with the wrestlers at the last TV taping and told them that this is the time the company is looking to make new stars, that nobody is going to be held back and that WWE want everyone working as hard as they can to reach for the brass ring. Stephanie also encouraged people to come up with s for their character and storylines, which is very different from what has gone before because generally the writing team has seen guys who come up with s and pitch them, unless they are top guys who are seen as having the stature to do so, as guys who are bothersome. |

WWE’s new Executive Vice President of Marketing Michelle Wilson is trying to push a direction for WWE that the company is a global entertainment company and not a pro wrestling company. Michelle recently said in an interview that people like to put WWE in a box of being professional wrestling and that’s just not the case. They are pushing the idea that three women besides herself, Linda McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Donna Goldsmith, are helping run the direction of the company and that 40% of the WWE audience is women. Actually, depending on which show it is and the week, the female audience usually ranged from 29% to 34%. When dealing with live event business, women are closer to 20-25% of the audience. thanks to StEPHMCMAhON15 of McMahon-Levesque Forum for the following: For years, the head of the creative team has been Stephanie McMahon, the boss’ daughter. While an intelligent, college-educated woman, her credentials qualifying her to be the head “writer” of a wrestling promotion remain the three words “the boss’ daughter.” Her knowledge of wrestling history, especially of how her father put the territories out of business, is nil, as evidenced by her testimony before Congress. Her experience as a performer has been limited to what she wrote for herself. It’s not her fault entirely, as until she came to work at the WWE after college, she attended the matches sporadically, and certainly no one was going to teach the boss’ daughter anything that might be politically imprudent. Her husband, Triple H, a student of the game, is certainly not going to rock his marriage boat, and much more important to him, his position as the heir to the throne, by telling her any of the negative effects her father has had on the pro wrestling industry in general while building his personal empire. So Stephanie, as head of creative, hires people like her.Young people with college degrees in writing, many with experience writing scripted television, comedy shows in particular, with little or no for wrestling, and little if any experience performing ANYTHING. As a matter of fact, being a fan of wrestling is not even a requirement for the job, and God forbid if you DO admit to being a wrestling fan, and having watched any other wrestling besides WWE, you will at best be viewed as a “mark” and your days numbered.
